A small-size humanoid robot is a bipedal humanoid noticeably shorter than an adult human. There's no industry-standard cutoff, but the term roughly covers anything under 1.5 m, with 1–1.4 m being the most common range, and educational models can be as small as a few tens of centimeters. Being smaller brings clear advantages: lower weight, lower joint-torque requirements, lower cost and price, and less impact damage when it falls — all of which suit research, education, competitions, and reinforcement-learning locomotion experiments. The trade-off is that it can't reach countertops or shelves and has limited payload, so it isn't suited to factory or household work directly. Over the past couple of years, Chinese manufacturers have pushed this category's price down to the tens of thousands of RMB, making it a common entry-level platform for labs.

ExampleUnitree's G1 (about 1.3 m), Booster Robotics' T1, and Noetix's N2 all fall into this category; the earlier NAO was only 58 cm tall.
